Holiday Fun!

I'm finally back from maternity leave, I was able to visit the classroom during my maternity leave and show the class my little baby girl Gracie Mae.  They all thought it was fun to see the baby that they had been talking about when she was in my tummy.

Now that I'm back, I am excited to start posting about what is going on in our classroom again!
Each day we are learning new things through creative play, fun activities, singing, and guided activites.

We have been learning about shapes and colors!

We had alot of fun decorating our classrom for the Christmas Season.  Our room is bursting with Season's Greetings!

While I was gone the students had a very fun Halloween/Fall party.  They had the cutest costumes.  I know that was awhile ago, but I thought the pictures were cute enough to share anyway!

Fire Truck by Ivan Ulz

Fire Safety

We are done with our Down on the Farm theme and this week we have moved on to Fire Safety.

Our class has had a wonderful time dressing up like firefighters this week:

In the Sand and Water Table we had pumps, water wheels, and pouring/measuring devices:

We built our own firetrucks to use in dramatic play!  They did a great job of painting the truck and fixing it up with ladders and lights.  A great big THANK YOU to Barbers for donating our boxes!

They really enjoyed pretending to race to fires!

The Fairbury City Fire Department put on a puppet show and fire safety presentation.  The kids loved it!  They laughed and sang and were able to try on some of the firefighter gear.
 It was a wonderful week!
Coming up next week we will change our them to "Jump Into Fall."

Down on the Farm

I can't believe September is coming to an end already!  So far this year we have learned about: Welcome to School, All About Me-The Five Senses, Families (including parents, siblings, babies, and grandparents), and last week we started Down on the Farm.
Coming up:  Continuing Down on the Farm, Fire Prevention, and then Jump into Fall.
The class has really enjoyed our farm unit art projects!

The class has also loved playing in our sand and water table during our farm theme.  We change what is in the sand and water table every few weeks to go along with our units.  Last week we had corn and this week we have shaving cream "mud" and pigs!

I think that, for some of the class, the favorite farm theme activity has been dressing up like farmers and cowboys and riding their horses!

We have so much planned to do and I think the Preschoolers will all have a great time and learn a lot.   I will be going on maternity leave some time in October and my wonderful substitute will be Ann Engelman.  Mrs. Engelman has substituted for a maternity leave with preschool age students the last two years in a row and I know she will do an excellent job.
